The AVENIR Project participated in the 3ᵉ 3rd edition of the Festival of Traditional and Local Foods (FESTAL),, organisée du August 15 to 17, 2025, in Kinshasa by the National Council for the Promotion of Family Foods (CNPAF-RDC),under the theme "Food Authenticity: I Eat Congolese."This event, supported by SIDA through the regional TAFS project - My Food is African / Food Authenticity, aims to promote food sovereignty and the promotion of local Congolese products.
A Concrete Commitment to Food Sovereignty
As part of this edition, the AVENIR Project provided technical and communication support to the festival, through the design and distribution of awareness-raising materials and media coverage.
The objective was to strengthen the reach of the message on the importance of traditional foods and to promote local consumption,in line with the project's mission.
Farmers' Federations at the Heart of the Event
True to its inclusive approach, the AVENIR Project facilitated the participation of several partner farmers' organizations from the project's province
Thanks to this logistical support, these federations were able to showcase their local products, share their experiences with other stakeholders, and demonstrate the richness of traditional foods from family farming.
Their presence helped showcase farmers' expertise and strengthen ties between producers and urban consumers..
A noteworthy presentation by the National Coordinator
Invited as a panelist, the National Coordinator of the AVENIR Project, Mr. Justinien Bacirongo Binyoma presented the project's objectives, implementation area, and prospects, emphasizing the importance of family farming and agricultural entrepreneurship in transforming food systems.
His presentation generated keen interest among the participants and helped position the project as a key player in promoting healthy, sustainable, and authentically Congolese food.
Communication and Visibility
Throughout the festival, the AVENIR Project ensured extensive media coverage : capturing images, reporting, and disseminating awareness-raising messages.
These actions permitincreased the institutional visibility of the project and its donors, while contributing to the overall success of the event.
A Renewed Commitment
Through its participation, the AVENIR Project reaffirms its commitment to supporting local initiatives aimed at promoting sustainable food, based on national production and traditional knowledge.
This experience demonstrates the importance of synergies between institutional, community, and private actors in addressing the challenges of food sovereignty in the DRC.
The AVENIR Project will continue to support the promotion of local products, build producers' capacities, and promote healthy and responsible food for the benefit of rural and urban communities.
