Participatory and territorial planning<\/h3>\n \n

In the 24 production basins identified, the Project supports a participatory planning process in order to establish or update existing Simplified Territorial Development Plans (PSAT), each covering an area generally corresponding to a group to determine the short and medium term development and restoration needs taking into account the land situation. Additional complementary plans - Fisheries co-management plan (PCP), Simple management plan (PSG) could complement PSAT.<\/p>\n \n\n\n \n <\/div>\n

Support for land security and inclusive management of community forests<\/h3>\n \n

The AVENIR Project contributes to improving land security for producers without land titles by scaling up the experience of the CONAPAC Land Access Investment Fund (FIAT) in North Kivu. FIAT will support the most vulnerable groups to cover the costs of land security for their plots for around a hundred hectares per province. The FIAT will be managed by the peasant organization which will constitute a national allocation committee on which representatives of vulnerable groups will sit (youth, women, PWD, PA) and will receive requests from a provincial instruction committee. The economic empowerment of targeted groups will make it possible to reimburse the sums advanced by FIAT to ensure its sustainability. \nThe Project will also support the process of securing 250,000 ha of community forests (technical documentation, administrative and legal procedures). By publishing methodological guides, this process will be popularized at a lower cost..\n<\/p>\n \n\n\n \n <\/div>\n

Development of diversified agroforestry systems <\/h3>\n \n

In order to ensure the restoration of soils, the recovery of biodiversity and the improvement of food and nutritional diversification, the AVENIR Project supports, on individual plots of family producers, the development of agroforestry and the planting of orchards as well as the emergence of nurseries (community or young entrepreneurs) in fruit, fodder, fast-growing forest species and endogenous species. <\/p>\n \n\n\n \n <\/div>\n

Sustainable fishing <\/h3>\n \n

In the province of Ma\u00ef-Ndombe, in order to stem overfishing in the lake and its tributaries, participatory consultations will be carried out by the fishermen's federation in order to update the Fisheries Co-management Plans defining the zones, periods and authorized fishing techniques. Through awareness campaigns, all local populations will be informed. The organization will benefit from access to its means of navigation (see SC 2.2) to ensure the application and compliance with the measures adopted. Young fishermen will be encouraged to seize opportunities for professional retraining in fish farming (see SC 1.2), in order to maintain the nutritional availability of fish while reducing pressure on fish stocks.<\/p>\n \n\n\n \n <\/div>\n

Support for the development of the sustainable coal sector<\/h3>\n \n

In order to respond, on the one hand to the significant needs for charcoal in urban areas, and on the other hand to the requirements of combating deforestation while creating jobs, the Project, in partnership with UNIDO, is scaling up the existing pilot project for the development of entrepreneurial initiatives for the production of charcoal with fast-growing species (production plots, semi-industrial processing units with briquette ovens). \nThe activities will consist of: (i) raising awareness about deforestation and the transformation of fast-growing species into charcoal; (ii) establish production nurseries and demonstration plots; (iii) establish plantations of rapid species and support individual and\/or group producers who will supply charcoal processing SMEs\/OPs; (iv) establish semi-industrial processing units in each of the eight clusters with technical support and marketing support within the MDGs. The processing units will be profitable businesses and can be supported in business management and facilitation of access to cost-shared financing (sub-component 1.4). \n<\/p>\n \n\n\n \n <\/div>\n
